Product descriptions usually aren't the first or most exciting aspects of web content you think about, but they are chock-full of sales and branding opportunities.
The most basic aspect of a product description is to provide thorough and accurate details so the customer feels convinced that the product and seller is right for them. You'll want to answer their questions, including height, weight, material, functions, the works. It is also important that the information is spelled correctly and is, let me stress this again, accurate. Not only will a sloppy product description make your business look unprofessional, it may make the customer feel that they don't know what they are paying for. And that's true. If the facts aren't reliable, then they don't know what they're getting. Making you risk a lost sale or a future refund.
You can also go further and strengthen your brand with your product descriptions. There are basic blurbs and bullet lists to provide information with a no-nonsense style, and that may suit your business best. But you might also want to give your descriptions a voice that reflects a more colorful brand.

Some businesses use exceptionally entertaining product descriptions as part of their brand. If you already have or want to build a creative and/or funny brand, this type of product description might be great for your business.
If you aren't sure what you want, that's okay. You can tell me your goals and give me details about your brand, or an undefined voice at this stage of the game, and I'll give you suggestions. We can look at examples of what other businesses are doing, including your competitors, and define a plan to make you stand out.
